Canoeing that Buffalo River, Summer 06















This adventure took place on the Lower Buffalo river near the border of Arkansas and Missouri. After a 10 hour drive to North Little Rock, we stayed the night with Erik's cousin Falsto and girlfriend Kasey. Two hours north, we put in. We Paddled 9 miles in the first half day, and Falsto and Kasey left the treck there (they had to work the next morning). We camped on a bluff overlooking the Buffalo river, and racoons (as well as other unidentified scary sounding animals) got into our trash. We contenued by paddeling 15 miles the next day, camping on a sandbar. We finished the last leg of the trip by paddeling 9 miles to where the Buffalo meets the White River, and the speed picks up. At the intersection, Erik and I decided to take a swim, but being that the water was 45 degrees, we didn't swim for more than a minute! We got to our pull-out point, ship's Landing, at 3pm, and our transportation was late....6 hours late. In that six hours, a thunderstorm rolled in, and the five of us had to huddle under a tarp in order to stay away from the elements. When transportation arrived, (after%2
